New esports academy in UAE aims to develop future gaming talent

This September, UAE schools will launch a new Esports and Game Design Academy, designed to foster the next generation of talent in esports and game development. The academy will provide students with scholarships and opportunities in competitive gaming and game design, emphasizing holistic development.

The initiative aligns with the UAE’s strategy to become a global gaming and esports hub, supported by the Dubai Future Foundation’s $1 billion investment aiming to create 30,000 jobs by 2033.

Sunny Varkey, Group Chairman of GEMS Global, stated in a Khaleej Times report, “Innovation is key to transforming lives. Our new academy will offer students the chance to engage in leading industries, enhancing critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills.”

The academy will offer a structured program with league participation, competitions, hackathons, and industry-level game design education. It will also focus on creating a safe and engaging environment, supporting students’ personal, social, and cognitive development.

Baz Nijjar, Principal Advisor – Education Technology, highlighted, “This academy is about more than gaming talent; it’s about providing a dynamic learning environment for students to thrive and develop essential skills for the future.”

Nijjar added that the academy will ensure a secure environment where students can learn about well-being, nutrition, fitness, and mental dexterity, reflecting the holistic approach of professional esports training.

The school group has a strong track record in promoting esports and game design, positioning it to lead this new initiative and offer students significant opportunities in the expanding gaming industry.
