NAIA Terminal 3 to undergo late-night power maintenance; minor disruptions expected

Operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 will undergo temporary adjustments as scheduled power maintenance is set to take place from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to an advisory issued by its operator, New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).

The activity, which will be carried out by Meralco Energy, Inc., involves a temporary power shutdown affecting various airport systems.

“This is part of ongoing efforts to keep NAIA safe, reliable, and operating at its best,” NNIC said in a statement.

While emergency generators will keep essential services running, brief service interruptions may still affect elevators, escalators, lighting, air conditioning, baggage handling, and electrical outlets. The San Miguel Corp.-led group managing the terminal assured passengers, “We will do our best to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.”

This isn’t the first time Terminal 3 has faced power-related challenges. In May, a similar maintenance operation caused some boarding bridges to be temporarily unavailable. In previous years, full outages—such as those in September 2022 and June 2023—resulted in delayed or canceled flights, manual check-ins, and long queues, raising concerns about the terminal’s power stability.

Authorities are urging travelers to plan ahead and remain patient as the maintenance work is completed.
