Filipinos, the Philippine government and the family of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stand with the Al Maktoum family and the people of Dubai in mourning Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, according to a statement released by the Philippine leader.
The Dubai Media Office announced Sheikh Ahmed’s death at the age of 76 on Monday, September 21, and the emirate declared an official 10-day mourning period, with flags flown at half-mast. He was the fourth and youngest son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Dubai’s former ruler.
Marcos used the message to point to the relationship between Manila and Abu Dhabi, noting that the UAE is home to a sizable population of Filipino residents and workers.
He also offered a prayer for the late sheikh and for the grieving royal household.
“May God grant him mercy and eternity in Paradise, and grant the Al Maktoum family patience, strength, and solace during this difficult time,” Marcos said.
His condolences were addressed directly to the deceased’s brother, Dubai’s ruler. “I extend my deepest and sincerest sympathies to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the passing of his beloved brother His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” the president said.
