Man on death row in Saudi Arabia saved by Indian community’s AED14 million fundraising effort

Malayalis from Kerala have come together to raise an impressive sum of Rs340 million to rescue Abdul Raheem from death row in Saudi Arabia. Media reports reveal that Raheem, a native of Kozhikode, had been sentenced to death in 2018 for the tragic murder of a differently-abled young boy back in 2006.

Despite the grim circumstances, the compassionate efforts of these individuals have ensured Raheem’s impending freedom. As per reports, Raheem had been employed as a driver by the boy’s family and had spent the last 18 years behind bars.

In a significant turn of events in 2023, the family of the victim opted to accept blood money, opening the door for Raheem’s salvation. A spirited campaign, buoyed by social media, garnered support from a diverse array of contributors, including non-resident Indians and business figures, all pooling resources to secure Raheem’s release.
