Kris Aquino reveals lupus diagnosis, promises to keep fighting

Kris Aquino shared with her followers a significant setback in her health journey. Currently in the United States receiving treatment for multiple autoimmune diseases, Aquino disclosed her latest diagnosis – lupus.

In a candid series of videos, Aquino detailed her health struggles, stating, “I am already exhibiting many symptoms for another autoimmune connective tissue disease – it’s highly likely based on my ANA count, my high inflammatory numbers, my anemia, my now constant elevated blood pressure at night and consistent appearance of the butterfly rash on my face that I’m on the initial stage of lupus.” She highlighted her challenges since Thanksgiving, including loss of appetite, daily headaches, dizzy spells, and blood pressure fluctuations.

The severity of her condition is underscored by her significant weight loss, dropping to a mere 92 pounds. Aquino’s medical team has stressed the importance of nutrition, advising her to focus on consuming real food and aiming to gain at least eight pounds. Despite the uphill battle, Aquino shared, “It’s an uphill climb since the New Year, I’ve only gained 3 pounds.”

With a resolve forged in adversity, Aquino conveyed her determination and the support of her family, stating, “I promised my sons and my sisters I won’t be a wimp,” and affirming, “Bawal sumuko, tuloy pa rin ang laban.”

Lupus, as described by the Mayo Clinic, is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues and organs. The diagnosis of lupus can be challenging due to its symptoms often mirroring those of other illnesses. A notable sign, although not universally present, is a facial rash resembling butterfly wings, spanning across both cheeks.

Aquino’s health has been a concern for some time, with her previous update in November highlighting nutrition issues and signs of heart exhaustion. Amidst her health struggles, the support from her celebrity friends, including Pokwang, Carmina Villaroel, Francis Libiran, Michael Cinco, Darren Espanto, and Carla Abellana, remains steadfast, as they continue to offer prayers and encouragement.
