Veteran TV anchor Henry Omaga-Diaz has bid farewell to ABS-CBN’s flagship newscast “TV Patrol” after more than 30 years with the network. Omaga-Diaz made the announcement during the Friday episode of “TV Patrol,” revealing that he will be starting a new chapter of his life abroad.
Throughout his career, Omaga-Diaz was known for covering major events such as disasters, tragedies, and significant international incidents affecting Filipinos, including the 1995 murder trial of domestic helper Sarah Balabagan in the UAE and the 2011 evacuation of OFWs from Libya during the civil war.
During his farewell, Omaga-Diaz expressed his deep appreciation for his colleagues and the ABS-CBN newsroom. “Grabe po ang naging suporta ng ating mga kasamahan sa newsroom, hanggang sa pag-edit ng script, sa video, kahit na nung nagpa-Patrol na ako,” he said, highlighting the strong bonds he formed with his co-workers over the years.
Co-anchors Karen Davila, Noli de Castro, and Bernadette Sembrano-Aguinaldo offered heartfelt messages, praising Omaga-Diaz for his humility, professionalism, and kindness. “Respeto, saludo sa priorities mo,” said Sembrano-Aguinaldo. “Idol.”
Omaga-Diaz joined ABS-CBN as a radio reporter and later transitioned to television, where he became known for his investigative reports and anchoring roles on shows like “Hoy Gising!” and “Bandila.” His work often focused on exposing injustices and government wrongdoings, bringing attention to the plight of marginalized groups.
