At least 50 people have died and over 100 others have been injured following severe flooding in the northern Afghan province of Baghlan, as reported by a spokesman from the Ministry of the Interior.
The flooding, which occurred after heavy rains on Friday, affected more than five districts, leaving over 150 people stranded and in urgent need of assistance.
Abdul Mateen Qaniee, the ministry’s spokesman, warned that the death toll could still rise. He also noted the impending risk from two more heavy storms forecasted for the same night.
Despite response efforts, including the deployment of teams and helicopters, rescue operations are hindered by a lack of night vision equipment, posing challenges to a successful night-time operation.
