A Marikina-based professional yoyo player brought home top honors from one of the region’s most storied competitions, adding another milestone to an already decorated career.
Henry Miguel “Miggy” V. Hizon claimed the gold medal at the Asia Pacific Yo-Yo Open 2026, held March 6 to 8 at the SCAPE venue in Singapore. The annual competition, organized by Spinworkx, has been running since 2003 and is widely regarded as the most prestigious yoyo event in the Asia Pacific region. This year’s edition drew competitors across multiple divisions and skill levels from throughout the region and beyond.

Hizon did not travel alone. Six other Filipino players competed alongside him under the Team Philippines banner — Don Consuegra, Aldrin Marapao, Simon Cabaguio, Martin Gazo, Kenneth Santiago, and Elijah Sampaga.
The win adds to an already formidable competitive record. Hizon holds nine Philippine national yoyo championships, currently ranks third in the world, and sits first in Asia — credentials that place him among the most accomplished competitive yoyo players the country has produced.
Despite those accolades, Hizon described the gold medal as something he had not anticipated when he started competing. “This is something I never imagined achieving when I first started,” he shared with TGFM, “and I consider it a blessing to have reached this point in my journey.”

Elsewhere in the competition, the 1A division — single unresponsive yoyo — was won by Allon Chen, with Hunter Feuerstein finishing second and Jakub Dolejs third. Japan’s Takeshi Matsuura drew perhaps the loudest reaction of the entire event despite not placing in the top three, earning a standing ovation and crowd chants. Seasoned observers described his routine as among the most technically impressive ever seen on a competition stage.
Hizon, a nine-time national champion now ranked first in Asia, said he considers the Singapore result a blessing — one he traces back to a journey that began long before anyone expected him to be standing on top of a regional podium.
