Filipino community in Al-Khobar marks Rizal’s 165th birthday with knighting and awards

A stunning demonstration of solidarity and patriotism was put on by the Filipino community in Al-Khobar on June 20, 2026. In commemoration of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s 165th birthday, the Knights of Rizal – Eastern Province Community Chapter (KOR-EPCCC) held a ceremonial event that included fraternal honors and patriotic homage. Under the auspices of this year’s theme—”Rizal as a Symbol of Filipino Heritage, Global Unity, and Cultural Pride”—the celebration emphasized the continuing significance of the national hero to contemporary Filipinos residing overseas. At the unforgettable event, members of the KOR Youth and Young Ladies chapters, as well as community leaders, sponsors, and partners, mingled with Brother Knights and Ladies of Las Damas de Rizal.

Part 1: A Commemoration of Fraternal Achievement

Knighting, elevation, and awarding were the somber and profoundly symbolic first ceremonies of the anniversary. These customs attest to the chapter’s maturation and commitment to sustaining Rizal’s values. Sir Rollie M. Temporal, KR; Sir Nikko A. Bueno, KR; and Sir Walter A. Cabradilla, KR are the newest Brother Knights to join the KOR-EPCC family. The chapter also elevated Sir Rolando F. Vinuya, KOR, to the rank of Knight Officer of Rizal in recognition of his distinguished service, leadership, and unfaltering devotion. The esteemed Sir Dr. Jordan T. Salvador, KCR was presented with the coveted Lifetime Member (LTM) Award and elevated to the rank of Knight Commander of Rizal.

Part 2: Motivational Speaking and Festive Rejoicing

Dr. Jose Rizal’s birthday was the subject of the second half of the program, which included motivational speeches delivered by prominent members of the community. Keynote speakers and honorees included Dr. Petronilla A. Sayud, PhD, Principal of Al Majd International School Philippine Curriculum (AMIS-PC), and Sir Enrique M. Piguing, KCR, of KOR Saudi Arabia Area Commander. Other attendees included Labor Attaché Solaiman C. Mutia of the Migrant Workers Office – Eastern Region Operations in KSA. They spoke movingly on how Rizal’s legacy is an important link in the chain that links Filipino culture to the worldwide Filipino diaspora. They implored the spectators to emulate the hero’s selflessness, devotion, and love for the homeland.

Thanks to exquisite musical tributes, the evening’s formal tone was expertly matched with warmth and enthusiasm. Bagong Bayano Awardees, Mr. Florante Catanus, Dr. Ronnie Molina, and Mrs. Analiza Catanus enchanted the crowd with a lovely serenade honoring Rizal, and the atmosphere was filled with happiness. At the end of the performances, the visitors and members of TFOE-PE, SAEER II, and KOR-EPCC sang a joyful birthday song to the national hero before cutting a ceremonial cake to end the homage.

Looking Ahead with Optimism

In honor of both historical patriotism and fraternal milestones, KOR-EPCC reiterated its commitment to preserving Rizal’s principles. By honoring his life, the chapter continues to encourage the next generation of Filipinos overseas to carry the flame of cultural pride. As the event’s overall chairman, the chapter is very grateful to Sir Andrew G. Santos, KCR. The success of this profoundly significant commemoration was guaranteed by his outstanding leadership, tireless effort, and devotion.
