Filipino aviation engineer inspires with global athletic achievements and community service

In the precision-driven realm of aviation maintenance, Wayne Mark B. Elep has emerged as a paragon of commitment and excellence. His career, which spans more than two decades and stretches across continents, has been marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence and an unwavering dedication to giving back.

Currently serving as an Aircraft Maintenance Planning Engineer with Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi, Wayne’s journey is a compelling narrative of professional achievement, personal development, and meaningful community engagement, all underpinned by his life mantra: “No pain, No gain.”

Wayne’s professional adventure was set in motion following his graduation from PATTS College of Aeronautics, where he majored in Aeronautical and Engineering Sciences. His career path led him from the Philippines to China, then to Qatar, and eventually to Abu Dhabi, where he has become an integral part of the Etihad Airways team for the past 15 years.

Wayne’s approach to work is characterized by his drive to exceed expectations and tackle challenges head-on.

“I always make sure that I deliver beyond expectation at the workplace, especially when dealing with challenging situations,” Wayne explains with The Global Filipino Magazine, shedding light on the trust and confidence his employer places in him.

Despite the demanding nature of his profession, Wayne has always prioritized a balanced lifestyle, ensuring he has time for spiritual growth, nurturing friendships outside of work, engaging in community service, and pursuing his passions in sports. This balance, he believes, is crucial to his overall success and well-being.

Impact beyond the runway

Wayne’s decision to pursue opportunities abroad was driven by his ambition to grow, compete on a global stage, and achieve his goals more rapidly, thanks to the lucrative salaries offered overseas. This journey, however, extended beyond professional advancements to include significant contributions to the communities he became part of. His active involvement in marathons, triathlons, coaching, and golf not only highlights his commitment to health and wellness but also his dedication to supporting others.

With achievements in major marathons around the world and participation in Ironman championships, Wayne’s athletic accomplishments are noteworthy. Yet, it’s his dedication to coaching and community service that truly distinguishes him. Offering free marathon training and support to over 100 runners, Wayne has leveraged his experiences as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) to inspire and empower others through sports.

“Being an OFW myself, I fully understand the need for physical and mental endurance to thrive abroad,” he states, drawing a parallel between his professional life and athletic pursuits.

Moreover, Wayne’s philanthropic efforts, including the donation of 70 pairs of running shoes to students in Batanes, reflect his belief in the transformative power of sports for the less fortunate.

Looking forward, Wayne aspires to settle in the Philippines, continuing his travels and advocacy for health and wellness. His message to fellow Filipinos abroad is clear and heartfelt: “Be wise in everything you spend—money, time, energy. Our life abroad is not forever. Make a proper plan, seek God’s blessings, and manage all the blessings well.”
