El Nido earns spot on BBC’s list of world’s top beach destinations

The Philippine tourism industry received a boost after El Nido, Palawan was named among the eight best beach escapes in the world by the BBC, placing the destination alongside some of the most celebrated coastal spots globally.

DOT OIC-Secretary Verna Buensuceso pointed to the recognition as validation of the destination’s standing on the world stage. “Citations such as these affirm the beauty and prestige of the many treasures that we boast to the world, and prove that El Nido can offer the same level of quality vacations as our global counterparts,” she said.

The Department of Tourism welcomed the listing, saying it reinforced what the destination’s limestone karst formations, pale sand shorelines, and clear turquoise waters have long made it a draw for both adventure seekers and leisure travelers.

El Nido’s inclusion comes as destinations worldwide compete for the attention of an increasingly selective global travel market.
