Eid al Fitr holidays announced for Dubai private schools and universities

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has declared the Eid Al Fitr holidays for private schools, universities, and nurseries in Dubai. According to the announcement, these educational institutions will be closed from Monday, April 8, until Sunday, April 14.

Regular classes are set to resume on Monday, April 15, after the week-long holiday. This break, combined with the usual Saturday-Sunday weekend, grants students a nine-day hiatus from their studies.

Eid Al Fitr, which falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Hijri calendar, follows the month of Ramadan. The duration of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the moon, lasting either 29 or 30 days.

While Indian-curriculum schools have recently reopened classrooms on April 1, they will soon break again for Eid Al Fitr, starting from April 6. Conversely, students in international curriculum schools have been enjoying a three-week Spring holiday since March 25, with classes scheduled to resume on April 15 after the Eid break.

Moreover, the UAE government has announced official holidays for private sector employees nationwide in observance of Eid Al Fitr. These holidays will commence on Monday, April 8, and extend until the equivalent of 3 Shawwal in the Gregorian calendar, aligning with the Islamic calendar’s lunar cycle.
