President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has surpassed Vice President Sara Duterte in the latest performance and trust survey conducted by OCTA Research. According to the second quarter Tugon ng Masa (TNM) survey, conducted from June 30 to July 5, 2024, Marcos achieved a 71 percent trust rating, reflecting a two percent increase from the previous quarter. In contrast, Duterte’s trust rating fell to 65 percent, down from 68 percent.
The survey period followed shortly after Duterte’s resignation from the Marcos Cabinet as Education Secretary. This marks the second consecutive quarter of declining trust ratings for Duterte, a trend that began in the fourth quarter TNM survey last December.
Senate President Francis Escudero received a 67 percent trust rating in his first survey appearance since replacing Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri. Meanwhile, Speaker Martin Romualdez saw a slight increase to a 62 percent trust rating, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo’s trust rating decreased from 15 percent to 13 percent.
In terms of performance, Marcos’ rating improved to 68 percent, up from 65 percent, while Duterte’s performance rating continued to drop to 60 percent, down from 64 percent last quarter. Romualdez’s performance rating rose slightly to 63 percent, driven by gains in Mindanao and among the ABC socioeconomic class, while Gesmundo’s performance rating slipped from 14 percent to 12 percent.
The survey, which included 1,500 respondents, has a nationwide margin of error of plus or minus three percent.
