Dubai Police warns hikers and drivers to stay away from Hatta valleys amid heavy rain

Patrol units stationed in Hatta have been mobilized across the area’s mountainous terrain and valleys in response to weather-related emergencies, with officers working around the clock to handle incidents ranging from flash flood entrapments to traffic accidents caused by the ongoing unstable conditions.

Brigadier Mubarak Al Ketbi, Director of Hatta Police Station, said the vehicles assigned to these operations differ significantly from standard patrol cars — fitted with custom tires built for rough terrain and equipped with advanced communication systems that maintain direct links to the Command and Control Centre. Rescue tools and support gear are also carried on board.

The station is coordinating its emergency response with the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Civil Defence, and Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services under the “Rain is a Blessing, Don’t Turn It into a Curse” initiative, which targets incidents including flood-trapped vehicles, falls from elevated areas, and weather-related road accidents.

Brigadier Al Ketbi said response protocols are triggered as soon as rainfall begins and valley waters start rising — patrols are dispatched immediately to monitor road conditions, warning signs are activated to bring down vehicle speeds, and coordination with the General Department of Transport and Rescue as well as land and sea rescue teams is set into motion.

Members of the public, tourists, and motorists are being urged to stay away from waterways and avoid crossing valleys. Brigadier Al Ketbi stressed that hiking or entering valley areas during heavy rain poses a serious risk to life. Anyone facing an emergency can contact the Dubai Police Command and Control Centre at 999 and should be prepared to give a precise location to help responders reach them quickly.
