Dubai Police traffic patrols quickly intervened to rescue a woman whose vehicle cruise control system malfunctioned while driving along Sheikh Zayed Road, potentially averting a major accident.
According to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, the operations room received an urgent report about a car moving at a fixed high speed toward Abu Dhabi with the driver unable to deactivate the cruise control.
Traffic units were swiftly deployed and located the vehicle in the fourth lane. They maintained constant phone communication with the driver, calmly guiding her through safety protocols. One patrol car moved ahead of the malfunctioning vehicle to help slow it down, while others secured the surrounding lanes to clear the road and prevent any collisions.
Thanks to their coordinated effort, officers were able to bring the car to a safe stop on the roadside without injury or damage. “They created a safe corridor in front of and behind the vehicle,” Al Mazrouei said, commending the team’s professionalism and quick thinking.
He reminded the public to regularly check key vehicle systems and to remain calm in case of malfunctions. He urged drivers to fasten their seatbelts, activate hazard lights, and immediately call 999 in emergencies. He also advised attempting to shift the car to neutral or restart the engine and, if needed, applying continuous brake pressure or carefully using the handbrake.
Al Mazrouei emphasized that knowing how to respond in these rare situations can make all the difference. “Making the right decision at a critical moment can significantly reduce serious risks,” he stressed.
