Dubai named world’s cleanest city for fifth year running

Dubai has been named the world’s cleanest city for the fifth year in a row, according to the 2024 Global Power City Index (GPCI) report by Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation. The city outperformed 47 global metropolises, achieving a perfect score in city cleanliness under the environment pillar.

This milestone highlights Dubai’s dedication to sustainability and urban excellence, driven by the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041. The plan aims to reduce waste production by 18% and divert all waste from landfills by 2041. These initiatives align with the emirate’s vision of becoming the world’s best city to live and work.

His Excellency Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, credited the achievement to teamwork, innovation, and the city’s ambitious vision. “Dubai’s consistent leadership is a testament to its commitment to excellence and sustainability,” he said in Dubai Media Office report, praising the 3,200-member cleaning team and advanced systems in place.

Dubai Municipality oversees daily cleaning operations across 2,400 km of roads, water canals, industrial zones, and residential areas, supported by 855 advanced vehicles. The city has also adopted smart technologies and electric vehicles to optimise waste management and reduce carbon emissions.
