A punctured tyre is no reason to bring a car to a halt in a moving lane, according to Abu Dhabi Police, who have laid out fresh guidance for motorists facing sudden trouble on the road.
Under that guidance, a driver whose vehicle can still be driven should press on toward the closest exit or a secure spot off the carriageway rather than pulling up where traffic is flowing. The Traffic and Patrols Directorate framed any stop in the middle of an active road, whether from a flat tyre or another emergency, as a genuine hazard to everyone sharing the route.
For situations where a car simply cannot go any further, the force directed drivers to dial 999 and reach the Command and Control Centre without delay to summon help. Reporting the breakdown quickly, the police noted, lets response teams arrive sooner, cuts the odds of a severe collision and keeps vehicles moving as normally as possible.
The advice followed a run of crashes tied to cars left standing in busy lanes, which prompted the force to circulate a safety clip on the subject. Produced together with the Monitoring and Control Centre, the footage captures multiple wrecks that began when a vehicle stopped amid live traffic, with drivers behind either reacting too slowly or losing their attention as the flow bunched up, setting off one impact after another.
Concentration, the directorate stressed, remains a driver’s strongest defense. Motorists were told to keep their attention squarely on the road, steer clear of anything that pulls focus, and be ready to handle whatever the drive throws at them, since sharp awareness is what allows for the right call in the seconds an emergency leaves.
