A delivery rider associated with Talabat was recognized by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for his quick response in averting a potential danger on Al Wasl Street. Ahmed’s proactive initiative to fix a dangling traffic light earned him praise from the community and authorities alike.
Ahmed, speaking to Khaleej Times, recounted the incident, stating, “I was just driving along Al Wasl Street because I did not have a delivery order at the time. I suddenly noticed the broken signal. One panel was detached, and it was dangling very dangerously.”
Concerned about the risk it posed to pedestrians and motorists, Ahmed swiftly parked his bike and attempted to rectify the situation. Unaware that his actions were being recorded, he said, “I had no idea someone had recorded and posted a video of me online.”
Following the incident, Talabat management informed Ahmed that the RTA sought to honor him for his exemplary service. “They said that RTA had received the video and wanted to honor me. So, I permitted them to share my details,” Ahmed said.
At the RTA headquarters, Ahmed was warmly received and thanked for his dedication to public safety. Reflecting on his actions, Ahmed remarked, “It was just a humanitarian gesture from my side. I didn’t do it expecting any reward.”
With over a decade of experience as a delivery rider in the UAE, Ahmed emphasized his commitment to contributing positively to Dubai. “I love this city so much,” he expressed. “It has given me so much. That is why I think it is important for everyone to pitch in to keep this city as beautiful as it is.”
Ahmed, who shared the news of his recognition with his family, expressed their joy. “They were happy that I did something good during the month of Ramadan more than the fact that I got recognized,” he said. “I showed them the photos from the event, and they were very happy for me.”
