A security guard stationed at the Department of Migrant Workers in the Davao Region has drawn public commendation after he turned over a misplaced wallet still holding ₱10,000 in cash and its owner’s identification cards.
Romel M. Samson, who was on duty at DMW XI, recovered the wallet and returned it untouched to an overseas Filipino worker the agency was assisting. The handover took place on June 1, 2026, with the cash and IDs all accounted for.
Rather than keep any portion of the money or wait for a reward, Samson handed everything back as found. The DMW noted that he neither sought nor accepted compensation for the gesture.
In recognizing him, the agency framed the act as a reflection of the principles it expects from those serving the public. It described his conduct as embodying the spirit of “Bayan, Bayani, Bayanihan” and said it demonstrated how ordinary choices rooted in honesty and compassion help foster a community built on trust.
The DMW tied the recognition directly to the standards it upholds, citing integrity, accountability, and sincere service as values the guard had put into practice. Closing its tribute, the agency told him: “Saludo kami sa iyong katapatan, integridad, at huwarang paglilingkod. Mabuhay ka!”
