Crime cases in Central Luzon drop nearly 50% under Safer Cities Program

Crimes against persons in Central Luzon fell by almost half in the span of ten days, according to figures released by the Police Regional Office 3.

PRO-3 recorded 21 incidents from April 6 to 16, 2026, down from 41 cases logged in the preceding period of March 26 to April 5 — a reduction of 20 cases, or roughly 49 percent.

Regional director BGen. Jess Mendez credited the numbers to a shift in how police resources are being deployed across the region. “This reflects what consistent, well-coordinated policing can achieve on the ground,” he said.

The gains are being attributed to the Safer Cities Program, a DILG-backed initiative reinforced at the national level by PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. The program centers on increased police visibility, faster response times, and tighter coordination with local government units and community partners.

Mendez framed the results as part of a broader mandate from PNP leadership. “Our efforts are aligned with the directive of our chief PNP, Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., to keep our communities safe, secure, and conducive to progress,” he said.

PRO-3 said it intends to build on the decline by reinforcing its preventive strategies and maintaining close coordination with partner agencies across the region.
