Child dies in Cebu due to explosion of illegal firecracker ‘Goodbye Philippines’

A 10-year-old boy tragically died in Talisay City, Cebu, after an illegal firecracker known as “Goodbye Philippines” exploded. The incident also left one minor critically injured and three others, aged 8 to 17, with injuries.

According to a report GMA News’ Saksi, the victim sustained chest wounds from debris that pierced his heart following the explosion.

Barangay Candulawan chairwoman Josefina Concial revealed that a man allegedly brought the illegal firecrackers to a vacant lot, where he ignited them. One firecracker failed to explode and was later picked up by the children, who reportedly struck it, causing it to detonate.

Authorities are now coordinating with the Talisay police to locate the man responsible for the illegal firecrackers.

In another incident in Asturias, Cebu, a man died after approaching a firecracker that initially failed to ignite. The firecracker, identified as a “bombshell,” suddenly exploded in his face.

A similar case occurred in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, where a man died from injuries caused by an improvised bombshell that he crafted using firecrackers. The device failed to light, and when he inspected it, the explosion resulted in severe facial and skull injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Four fatalities from firecracker-related incidents have been reported so far: two in Cebu, one in Pangasinan, and one in Nueva Ecija.
