The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) has reduced the cost of one of its key professional development courses, with the lower rate taking effect May 1, 2026.
The Training Course for Assessors, which follows IMO Model Course 3.12, will now carry a fee of PHP 8,000 — down from the previous PHP 11,400. The reduction amounts to roughly 30 percent and is intended to open the 10-day program to a broader segment of Filipino maritime workers.
The course is designed to equip maritime assessors with the standards and methods required to properly evaluate seafarer competency under the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW). Wider access to assessor-level training is expected to strengthen the overall competitiveness of Filipino maritime professionals in the global market.
NMP Executive Director Victor Del Rosario framed the move as a matter of professional equity. “Ang inisyatiba na ito ay isang malaking hakbang para maging accessible ang maritime training na magsusulong sa propesyunal na pag-unlad ng mga Filipino seafarers,” he said.
The NMP said the fee adjustment is part of a broader effort to raise training quality while ensuring more seafarers can sustain and advance their careers in the industry.
