CFO opens Cagayan de Oro extension office to make services easier for Mindanao migrants

Filipino migrants in Mindanao can now access Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) services more easily as the agency opens its registration to clients in its newest extension office in Cagayan de Oro City on September 10, 2025

The new extension office is located at the 5th Floor, SM CDO Downtown, Claro M. Recto Avenue, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental.

The Cagayan de Oro extension office is the latest in CFO’s network of regional offices, following Cebu, Davao, and Baguio, and will cater to clients from Region IX (Zamboanga Peninsula), Region X (Northern Mindanao), and Region XIII (CARAGA). Between 2014 and 2023, these regions registered 29,701 emigrants, 1,666 au pairs, and 4,487 J-1 visa holders through the CFO.

The CDO office will offer the same range of services available in other CFO branches, including:

  • Registration of Filipino emigrants and Filipino permanent residents overseas
  • Conduct of Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS), Guidance and Counseling Program (GCP) for Filipino spouses and partners of foreign nationals, and Country Familiarization Seminar (CFS) for Europe-bound au pairs
  • Information dissemination on migration issues

Attendance to PDOS, CFS, and GCP will be strictly by appointment, with walk-ins limited to senior citizens, pregnant women (with medical certification), PWDs (with valid ID), and minors aged 12 and below.

In line with the Bagong Pilipinas thrust of President Marcos and in fulfillment of the CFO’s mandate to support Filipino emigrants and strengthen diaspora engagement, the new office will serve as a strategic hub for the growing migrant population in the southern Philippines.

CFO Secretary Dante ‘Klink’ Ang II said, “President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr.’s recent State of the Nation Address emphasized the need for faster, more efficient, and overall better government services. And as we open this new office in CDO, we are a step closer to achieving this goal.”

Established on June 16, 1980 through Batas Pambansa Bilang 79, the CFO is a government agency under the Office of the President mandated to assist Filipino emigrants, promote their welfare, and connect them with overseas communities for national development.
