Mark Andrew Yulo, the father of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, sparked online backlash following a Facebook live session on Monday, September 7, 2024, where his comments about his son drew criticism from netizens.
In a screen-recorded video shared by viewers, Mark Andrew responded to a comment about Carlos “milking” him, saying, “Baka ako ang ginatasan ni Caloy. Kinuha niya ang semilya ko tapos ginanyan na niya kami,” before quickly adding, “Joke lang.” However, the remark left a sour impression on many, with netizens voicing their disapproval.
“Ang toxic ng mga magulang, grabe na siguro trauma ni Caloy,” one netizen commented, while others expressed concern that the family dynamics could worsen: “Lalong di na magkakaayos kapag ganyan.”
This marks the first public statement from Carlos’ father after controversies surrounding the Yulo family’s strained relationship, which have gained attention since Carlos returned from Paris. Social media has also been abuzz with posts from Mark Andrew that seemingly take aim at his son, further fueling the ongoing family tensions.
Some netizens, once sympathetic to the parents, have since shifted their support to Carlos, with one saying, “Dati sa magulang ako naaawa, ngayon parang kay Caloy na.”
