Bimby turns 19: Kris Aquino reveals son’s ‘special’ someone, hints at TV comeback

A birthday post for her youngest son turned into a glimpse of Kris Aquino’s personal life — from her hopes of gaining a future daughter-in-law to news of a new project with actor Dingdong Dantes.

The 19-year-old James Carlos Aquino Yap Jr., known publicly as Bimby, celebrated his birthday as his mother shared a lighthearted video on Instagram showing the two chatting in bed. When asked whether he had a girlfriend, Bimby sidestepped the question with laughter and a simple “I love you, Mama.”

Despite the deflection, Kris made clear she already knows something is brewing. In her caption, she revealed that Bimby had confided in her about someone he considers worth pursuing.

“I never thought I’d be excited for the day when Bimb really likes a girl. He told me he feels she’s ‘special.’ My birthday wish for my bunso is that she does become his first girlfriend—and who knows, God willing, also his last. Yes, I’ll be very blessed to have her as my daughter-in-law (in 7–9 years?),” she wrote.

True to form, Kris admitted she has already been pushing to send the mystery girl gifts — flowers, balloons, sweets, food, and even half of a couple hoodie — only to be talked down by her son.

“I also asked Bimb if she has a new phone—he freaked out and said, ‘Mama, chill. You’ll overwhelm her because she’ll know it’s not from me but from you. Please let it flow,'” Kris recounted.

Beyond the romance, the post carried a more reflective tone. Kris acknowledged that Bimby had set aside much of his own life to look after her during her illness, and said she intends to return the favor by stepping back.

“Bimb has sacrificed so much to take care of me, but he doesn’t have to anymore. The best gift I can give him is to let him enjoy his youth and choose his own career path. My deal with him is that he just has to give his 100 percent,” she wrote.

Kris also disclosed that she is currently undergoing a second cycle of Rituxan infusions — a potent immunosuppressant — and that her health has been showing encouraging signs. It is within this context that she announced her upcoming collaboration under a team assembled by her godson, Dantes.

A scheduled presentation for the project on April 18 was moved at her request, as she chose to spend the weekend focused on Bimby’s birthday, including only her second dinner outing since returning home.
