Dubai RTA successfully reduces travel time by 50% with traffic improvements

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has achieved a significant milestone in traffic management by successfully reducing travel times in several locations by 50% following a comprehensive package of traffic improvements. The project, a part of the Rapid Traffic Improvements Plan, incorporated 45 traffic solutions and increased the vehicle capacity of key roads by up to 25%. This initiative aims to enhance road efficiency and safety in the emirate.

Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Executive Director of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, revealed that the project, which began last year, is set to continue throughout 2024 and will encompass traffic improvements in 31 locations across Dubai. Notable roadways in the plan include Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Awir Street, Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street, Al Rabat Street, Al Khail Street, and Al Maidan Street.

One of the most significant improvements implemented last year was the introduction of a free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Financial Center Street, leading to Al Khail Street. This strategic change has greatly enhanced traffic flow, reducing travel time from five minutes to just one minute.

In addition to this, RTA increased the lanes leading to the roundabout and optimized the use of existing bridges, resulting in a remarkable 50% reduction in travel time for entering and exiting the Dubai Production District and the Dubai Sports City District.

Furthermore, the Authority expanded the lanes of the right-hand exit from Rabat Street to the Business Bay Crossing, as well as the Emirates Road exit towards the Maliha Street Intersection (Exit 71), to alleviate congestion and improve the overall driving experience for residents and commuters in Dubai.
