Abu Dhabi and Dubai among least congested in Tomtom Traffic Index

Abu Dhabi and Dubai have been highlighted for their relatively low traffic congestion levels compared to major cities worldwide. The study, which ranks cities based on traffic congestion, positioned Abu Dhabi and Dubai significantly lower on the list, indicating smoother traffic flow in these regions.

The index, which identified Metro Manila as the world’s most congested metro area, presented a contrasting picture for the UAE cities. Abu Dhabi ranked 353rd with a travel time of 9 minutes and 30 seconds for 10 kilometers. Not far behind, Dubai stood at the 330th position, with a 10-minute-20-second travel time for the same distance.

These figures reflect the efficient urban planning and infrastructure development in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, contrasting starkly with the top congested cities in the index. The report underlines the commitment of UAE’s urban centers to maintaining and enhancing the quality of road networks and traffic management systems.

The Tomtom Traffic Index is a comprehensive database, collating anonymous data from drivers across the complete road network. This includes major highways and fast roads, ensuring a detailed analysis of traffic flow and congestion levels.

While Abu Dhabi and Dubai set examples in traffic management, Sharjah was identified as the most congested city in the UAE, ranked 268th with a travel time of 12 minutes and 30 seconds for 10km. However, even the most congested city in the UAE fares better in comparison to the top congested metro areas globally.
