Government agencies involved in migration policy were briefed on the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) Labor Migration Management Plan (LAMMP) in Makati City on September 25, 2026, at a meeting that also revived an interagency body that had not met in more than two years.
DMW Assistant Secretary Mary Grace L. Riguer-Teodosio presented the plan, which sets out steps to reinforce the country’s labor migration systems and policies. The protection, welfare and development of Filipino migrant workers form its core.
The briefing took place before the Subcommittee on International Migration and Development (SC-IMD), a unit of the Social Development Committee (SDC). The DMW convened the session as part of a push for tighter coordination among agencies on labor migration, and said it continues to favor a whole-of-government approach to migration governance and policies that open safe, fair, orderly and sustainable pathways for Filipinos seeking work abroad.
The Philippines’ 2026 chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was also on the agenda. The DMW updated agencies on its related initiatives, citing room for deeper regional cooperation on safe, orderly and regular migration and for stronger protections of migrant workers’ rights and welfare.
Member agencies used the meeting to align their priorities and map out areas where they could work together on migration and development.
The subcommittee functions as a venue for agencies to harmonize policies and programs on international migration and its role in national development, particularly those addressing the needs of overseas Filipino workers and their families.
Its last meeting, in April 2024, was also its first. That inaugural session followed the body’s creation in 2023 through an SDC resolution.
