Four killed in lightning strike near Mecca’s mountain in Saudi Arabia

Four individuals lost their lives when lightning struck at a site close to the historic Jabal Thawr (Mount Thawr) near Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This mountain is renowned among Muslims for its significant historical site, the Ghar (Cave) of Thawr.

Reports emerging from social media indicate that the incident occurred while the victims were in the vicinity of this notable landmark. A fifth person sustained injuries in the strike.

An online video captured the aftermath of the tragic event, showing the bodies of the four deceased individuals lying on the ground. Onlookers at the scene were seen covering the corpses, reflecting the gravity of the situation.

A voice in the video expressed condolences, praying for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased, highlighting the community’s shock and grief.

The Cave of Thawr holds immense historical and religious significance in Islam. It is the site where Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) and his companion Abu Bakr sought refuge from their persecutors during the early years of Islam. This event is a pivotal moment in Islamic history, marking the beginning of the Islamic Hijri calendar. The cave is situated approximately 4 kilometres from Mecca, the location of the Grand Mosque, considered the holiest site in Islam.
