The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a rise in taxi fares for New Year’s Eve, particularly in areas hosting firework displays. Starting at 6pm on December 31 and lasting until 6am the next day, the flag down rate for taxis will be set at Dh20, a notable increase from the usual Dh12.
This surge in pricing applies to regular-metered taxis and the Hala Taxi service, an e-hail ride option. The new fares, which could be up to double the standard rates, are part of a dynamic pricing strategy aimed at managing the expected high demand during the festivities.
The RTA highlights that such fare adjustments will not be limited to New Year’s Eve but will also be implemented during major events, exhibitions, and international conventions in key locations like the World Trade Centre, Expo City, and Global Village.
In their statement, the RTA emphasized their commitment to improving taxi services, particularly during high-demand periods. This adjustment aims to cater to the influx of residents, visitors, and tourists in Dubai for celebrations and events. The normal taxi fare structure in Dubai varies depending on the type of taxi, pick-up location, trip duration, and distance traveled, with a usual minimum fare of Dh12 plus Dh1.97 per km.
