Thirteen civilians were wounded when ballistic missiles and drones struck populated areas of Saudi Arabia overnight, according to the Saudi-led coalition, which attributed the assault to Yemen’s Houthi movement.
The injured suffered wounds ranging from minor to moderate, coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al Maliki said. Alongside the casualties, the strikes damaged seven houses and two vehicles, he reported.
Al Maliki identified the targeted communities as Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif, and said the attacks combined ballistic missiles with drones aimed at civilian districts. The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen disclosed the toll in a statement released in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to the spokesman, the assault reflected an intensifying Houthi effort to direct fire at ordinary residents and the infrastructure they depend on. He said the coalition would answer responsibly and firmly to safeguard Saudi sovereignty, its people, and civilian sites.
Any military response, Al Maliki added, would be conducted under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which recognizes the right to self-defense, and in keeping with international humanitarian law. He said the coalition was prepared to take whatever operational measures were required to deter future strikes and counter what he termed hostile Houthi actions.
