A man in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija has confessed to killing his cousin, a nursing student, after she declined to lend him P5,000, authorities said.
According to a report by Unang Balita on Wednesday, the case was initially flagged to emergency responders as a suicide. A 911 call reported the death, and officers who responded found the young woman dead inside her home in Barangay Santo Cristo.
Investigators grew suspicious of that account, however. One of the victim’s two cellphones was missing from the scene, and the device was later traced to her male cousin, prompting police to question whether she had taken her own life.
The cousin was subsequently arrested and admitted responsibility for the death. He told authorities he had gone to the victim’s house to borrow P5,000, but the request was turned down. The two argued, and the confrontation ended with him killing her.
The suspect attributed his actions to drunkenness and intense anger. A murder complaint has been filed against him.
