High-achieving graduates from Abu Dhabi’s government schools have earned a new perk: a full year of free public transport.
Under a program announced by Abu Dhabi Mobility, students who completed high school at government institutions with an academic average of at least 95 percent during the 2025–2026 school year will receive their Hafilat card, the emirate’s fare payment system, at no cost for 12 months. Those who qualify will also gain access to a dedicated counter offering expedited service.
The Hafilat card works across the emirate’s bus network, covering both routes inside Abu Dhabi and intercity services linking different areas. Because a single card handles all fares, riders avoid the hassle of purchasing separate tickets for each trip.
Riders can choose from four card options. The Anonymous card, priced at AED 10, requires no registration and suits tourists or those who travel only occasionally. The Personalised version also costs AED 10 but is aimed at residents and frequent commuters, who must register and present an Emirates ID to obtain one. Senior citizens of the UAE who meet eligibility requirements can get a card free of charge, though registration and an Emirates ID are still needed.
The Student card, which normally sells for AED 5, is the category tied to the new offer. Applicants must show a student ID along with any additional paperwork the department requests.
Whichever card a passenger holds, an initial minimum top-up is typically needed before it becomes active. Once loaded, the balance covers individual bus fares or can be applied toward weekly, monthly, or annual travel passes.
