Stop for the school bus arm or pay a AED 1,000 fine in Abu Dhabi

Drivers in Abu Dhabi face a penalty of AED 1,000 and 10 black points if they fail to halt when a school bus extends its side-mounted “STOP” arm, according to Abu Dhabi Police.

Authorities called on motorists to bring their vehicles to a full stop whenever that signal appears, and to keep a gap of no less than five meters from the bus. Police explained that the measure gives children room to cross the road without danger as they get on and off.

Officials framed the protection of students as a duty everyone on the road shares. They asked drivers to stay alert and cautious in areas near schools and buses, and to follow the traffic rules designed to keep young pupils safe.
