MANAMA, Bahrain — An evening filled with competition, camaraderie, and the spirit of the Filipino community culminated in a celebration as the Filipino American Association of Bahrain (Fil-Am Bahrain) claimed the championship title in the Philippine Bahrain Volleyball League (PBvL) One-Night Volleyball League.
Held on 26 and 27 August 2026 at A’ali Gym in Isa Town, the tournament featured eight teams vying for the prestigious title. Following a series of thrilling matches, Fil-Am Bahrain triumphed over MATES, formerly known as Dabarkadz, in the final match. Team Gilas achieved third place.
For Grace Estacio, manager of Fil-Am Bahrain, the victory was more than a winning moment. It was the result of hard work, trust, friendship, and a team that chose to play with one heart.
“This championship means so much to me. It is more than just a winning trophy. It reminds me that no one can stop us from doing what we love when we have determination and teamwork. This victory represents our hard work, commitment, and, most of all, the trust that each member has given to the team. We may not have the biggest number of players, but whenever we step insidethe court, we play as one team, one family, and one Fil-Am,” Estacio said.
She shared that every game brought its own challenges, but the team’s willingness to support one another kept them focused.
“To our entire Fil-Am team, this championship is proof that when we support and encourage each other and leave our egos behind, we can accomplish something special. Every point, every mistake, and every comeback brought us closer to victory,” she added.
“This victory is not only about us. It is a tribute to our friendship and to our Fil-Am leaders who continue to believe in us. I am truly proud to be part of this team. Mabuhay ang Fil-Am!”
Leading the championship squad was RB “Bryce” Torres, who served as team captain and was recognized as Best Setter. AJ Verzosa delivered an outstanding performance and was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) and selected to the Mythical Six.
The championship team also included Madelyn Despi, Jocelyn Pinuela, CJ Suarez, Joy Ilag, and Khaycee Pinuela, each contributing to the team’s successful campaign.
Ms. Rose Rafer organized the tournament, uniting the teams not just for competition but also to relish the friendship, enjoyment, and camaraderie that characterize community volleyball.
More than the final score, the PBvL One-Night Volleyball League gave Filipino players an opportunity to compete, reconnect with friends, and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from being part of a community.
For Fil-Am Bahrain, the championship was a reflection of what can happen when players put aside individual differences, trust one another, and work toward one goal.
Beyond the championship, the victory became a proud moment for the Filipino community in Bahrain. It showed not only the players’ talent and determination, but also how sports can bring people together, create lasting friendships, and strengthen the sense of family among Filipinos far from home.
With the PBvL championship now in their hands, Fil-Am Bahrain hopes to carry the same spirit of teamwork and determination into their future competitions.
