A safety warning about the dangers unguarded windows pose in high-rise homes has followed the death of a young Indian girl who fell from a third-story residence in Sharjah’s Al Nabba district on Monday, according to Gulf Today.
The child, seven-year-old Safa Mubarak, studied in Grade 2 at a school in Ajman and was her parents’ only child. The couple hails from Kerala.
Her uncle, Mansoor Ali, recounted that Safa was inside the apartment when she fell. Moments earlier, her father Mubarak Ali had stepped out with Mansoor to reach the family vehicle parked below. Her mother, Murshida Mubarak, had already departed for work at a real estate firm in Sharjah.
The family’s understanding, Mansoor said, is that the girl had been asleep and likely stirred once her father was gone. He said she made her way to a window, slid its door open, and fell.
Employed at a Dubai healthcare facility, Mubarak remained near the car when the fall happened.
Only a short time before, the household had come back to the UAE after traveling to their native Kerala. Safa was getting ready to head back to class, with the term set to start again the following week.
Sharjah Police have opened an inquiry into what led to the fall. Gulf Today reported it was unable to secure an official comment from the force.
Relatives were handling the required steps after the loss, Mansoor said, adding that the family intends to lay Safa to rest in the UAE and is coordinating with officials to finish the paperwork.
Reached while accompanying Safa’s parents as they wrapped up documentation, Mubarak chose not to say more about what had happened.
