Dubai consulate marks ASEAN’s 59th year with call for stronger regional trust

Trade between ASEAN and the UAE is climbing, tourism is expanding, and cooperation is deepening in fields ranging from digital transformation to renewable energy. That growth framed the keynote remarks of Ambassador Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver during a diplomatic reception in Dubai on August 13, 2026, held to commemorate the 59th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Ver told guests that the value of trust and tight coordination among ASEAN missions in the UAE had been proven during recent regional tensions. He pointed specifically to the missions’ work in safeguarding citizens and keeping communication lines open as an example of what that coordination delivers in practice.

The gathering, carrying the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” was organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and took place at Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk. Attendees included UAE officials, resident diplomats from ASEAN countries and partner states, and figures from the private sector and the Filipino community.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. addressed the room through a recorded message, speaking to ASEAN unity and outlining what the Philippines intends to prioritize during its 2026 Chairship. Those priorities, he said, include securing energy and food supplies and protecting nationals living outside their home countries.

Consul General Ambrosio Brian F. Enciso III used his remarks to spotlight the bloc’s dedication to peace and cooperation. He also expressed gratitude to the UAE for serving as a hospitable home to millions of ASEAN nationals.

Guests were treated to a program that ran from official video presentations on the organization and its anniversary to a cake-cutting ceremony and cultural performances drawing on beloved songs from member states. The catering leaned on signature dishes from across Southeast Asia.

Organizers credited Ariel Wedding and Event Organizing for the floral centerpieces, Philippine Strings for the music, and Lee Temporal for photography and coverage of the evening.
