Storm-hit SSS members can borrow up to P20,000 under relaxed terms

Qualified members recovering from Tropical Storm Maymay and the intensified Southwest Monsoon can now tap the Social Security System’s Emergency Loan Program under relaxed contribution requirements, with borrowers eligible for up to P20,000 at interest as low as 7 percent per year.

The pension fund lowered the contribution threshold for applicants to 18 monthly payments, down from the standard 36, on the condition that a member has posted at least six contributions within the previous 12 months. For self-employed members, voluntary contributors, non-working spouses, and land-based overseas Filipino workers, the program requires at least six monthly contributions logged under their current membership type before the month they file.

Applicants also face a set of standing conditions to qualify. They must be younger than 65 when applying, carry a valid Philippine home address and current contact details in SSS records, and hold an active disbursement account registered through the Disbursement Account Enrollment Module on the My.SSS Portal. Members are disqualified if they have past-due emergency, calamity, salary, educational assistance, or other short- or long-term loans, an outstanding restructured loan, a prior finding of fraud against the agency, or an already-granted final benefit such as retirement or permanent total disability.

Repayment stretches across 30 months and includes a six-month grace window at the outset.

“Members are not required to make monthly amortization payments during the first six months from the date of loan approval. No penalties will be imposed during this period. Regular monthly amortization payments will begin in the seventh month,” said SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro.

De Claro framed the program as a standing channel for members in distress, describing it as a source of relief that stays open to qualified members across the country during calamities and other emergencies.

“The ELP is part of SSS’ continuing commitment to provide immediate financial relief to members affected by unforeseen events. Through the ELP, qualified members affected by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon may access much-needed financial assistance under more flexible eligibility requirements,” he said.

Members caught by the storm may also file for a regular SSS salary loan at the same time, provided they meet its separate eligibility rules. Both the Emergency Loan Program and the salary loan can be filed online through the My.SSS Portal at www.sss.gov.ph. The eased contribution terms trace back to the program’s revised guidelines, which have been in force since May 1, 2026.
