A dog in Bacolod City limped home to its owner with a crossbow bolt embedded in its body, in what its owner believes was a deliberate attack.
According to a report by GMA Regional TV Ratsada Balita, the fur parent known as “Cha-cha” only noticed the animal weakening after it arrived at their home in Barangay 8. It was then discovered that a bolt was lodged in the dog’s body.
Neighbors stepped in to remove the projectile, and the dog continues to recover from the wound it sustained.
Cha-cha believes the pet was intentionally targeted. “Hindi ko alam kung saan galing. May nakapagsabi lang na may nakakabit na sa kaniya. Siyempre, naawa naman ako. Parang tao rin sila. Mabait naman siya,” Cha-cha said. Some young people in the area are suspected of possible involvement, and Cha-cha also cited what barangay officials had said: “Sabi ng barangay, posible na ganito nga. Sana hindi nila ginawa iyon sa aso.”
Animal welfare groups have signaled their readiness to cooperate in identifying whoever was responsible for harming the dog.
Animal welfare advocate Lowella Marie Sanicas reminded the public that harming animals carries penalties under the law. “Under sa ating Republic Act 8485, bawal magsakit or mag-maltreat ng hayop, especially ang ating dogs and cats. Tayong mga tao, mas nakakaalam tayo compared sa hayop. Sana maging lesson ang nangyaring ito,” she said.
