Filipinos working abroad and the relatives they support stand to gain broader entry to social security coverage under a fresh cooperation deal between two government bodies.
The Social Security System (SSS) and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) formalized the arrangement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) intended to widen protection for Overseas Filipinos (OFs) and their households.
Central to the deal is a joint push on information, education, and communication (IEC) efforts. Both agencies committed to raising awareness among OFs about how SSS membership works, what benefits and loan programs are available, and how the MySSS Pension Booster operates. The partnership is also meant to make social security services easier to reach and to give Filipinos overseas the tools to plan their finances and safeguard their families.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph Montes de Claro joined CFO Chairperson Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II in leading the signing, with both officials restating their agencies’ commitment to the welfare of Filipinos abroad through closer coordination.
“This MOU marks another significant step in strengthening the partnership between SSS and CFO,” de Claro said. “Through this collaboration, we aim to reach more Overseas Filipinos and provide them with the knowledge they need to access SSS programs and services that support their financial security and well-being.”
The two offices are not starting from scratch. Their working relationship dates to 2025 through the KaSSSangga Collect Program, an initiative that helped extend SSS coverage to CFO’s Job Order and Contract of Service workers. The newly signed MOU carries that earlier effort forward, with both sides set to keep promoting social protection so that a greater number of Filipinos overseas and their dependents can tap improved social security services.
