Three local governments in southern Mindanao have each been promised a share of P5 million in aid from Pasig City following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck offshore Sarangani on June 8. Sarangani province and Davao Occidental were allotted P2 million apiece, while General Santos City was given P1 million.
The money was drawn from the Quick Response Fund under Pasig’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund, Mayor Vico Sotto confirmed Monday. Its release was authorized through Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Resolution No. 1, Series of 2026, a measure the Sangguniang Panlungsod separately took up and adopted.
Personnel drawn from three Pasig offices — the Management Information Systems Office, the Tricycle Operations and Regulatory Office, and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office — carried out the handover on June 25 and 26. The General Santos share was received by Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao, Sarangani’s by Governor Rogelio Pacquiao, and Davao Occidental’s by DILG Provincial Director Atty. Djamyla Caballero together with Board Member Caloy Baliota.
While on the ground, the visiting team also stopped by the emergency operations centers run by each recipient locality to gauge how they were coping in the weeks after the tremor.
Sotto credited both city workers and Pasig residents for making the delivery possible.
