Property owners across the UAE who fail to fit their structures with lightning conductors risk financial penalties, according to the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority (ADCDA).
The authority confirmed that the absence of such a device is classified as a general violation, carrying a fine reaching AED 5,000.
ADCDA tied the requirement to Cabinet Resolution No. 24 of 2012, the legislation governing how civil defence services operate nationally. The resolution is intended to strengthen safety benchmarks and reduce hazards, with particular attention to weather-driven dangers like lightning strikes.
The rule extends to properties already standing as well as those still being built, the authority noted. Independent private residences and homes are exempt from the requirement.
ADCDA described lightning conductors as a core safeguard shielding both buildings and the people inside them from possible harm.
Owners were urged to follow the sanctioned safety standards and put the appropriate precautions in place, a step the authority said supports the protection of lives, property, and the wider goal of a secure environment.
