Charges spanning frustrated murder, direct assault, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and a violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 await three men wounded in a clash with police along the North Luzon Expressway in Bulacan, according to Bulacan Police Provincial Office director Col. Jay Baybayan.
Two of the three have already been discharged from the hospital and are being held at the Bocaue Municipal Police Station. The third is still confined at the Joni Villanueva General Hospital.
Police identified the men as Jonathan Perez, Jerome Nabuson and Reymark Padilla. Operatives recovered two firearms, three grenades, a flash bang, and suspected shabu and marijuana from them following the encounter on the southbound lane of the expressway.
The confrontation unfolded Friday afternoon at the NLEx tollgate in Barangay Turo, Bocaue, after joint operatives signaled the suspects’ vehicle to stop. Rather than yield, the men fired on the police, who returned fire and wounded all three.
Baybayan said the group has been tied to robberies across the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and the National Capital Region, among them recent heists in Magalang, Pampanga, on June 22 and Victoria, Tarlac, on June 24.
