Former presidential spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque expressed confidence that the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte will not result in her removal from office, saying he believes she remains on track for a future presidential run.
According to Roque, he does not expect the impeachment proceedings to end with Duterte being permanently barred from holding public office. He maintained that she still has a viable path to the presidency despite the case she is facing.
“Tatay Digong, huwag po kayong mag-alala dahil magiging Presidente si Inday Sara Duterte,” Roque said.
He also argued that no potential challenger currently has a realistic chance of defeating Duterte in a national election.
“Hindi nila maaalis sa pwesto. Hindi nila mapapatawan ng perpetual disqualification of public office at wala pong kahit sinong nagbabalak na labanan siya na merong possibility o kahit anong chance na manalo laban sa kanya,” he added.
Duterte is facing impeachment proceedings that, if they result in a conviction by the Senate, could lead to her removal from office and permanent disqualification from holding public office. The vice president has denied the allegations against her.
Roque is currently staying overseas while facing legal cases filed against him in the Philippines.
