New lane on Sheikh Zayed Road among Dubai’s June road works

Motorists who funnel from Hessa Street onto Sheikh Zayed Road heading towards Abu Dhabi will soon have extra room to merge, with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority preparing a fresh lane along one of the city’s heaviest commuting stretches.

The lane forms part of a broader package of works the RTA has scheduled across the emirate through June 2026. In a video shared on its official social media channels, the authority said the addition is meant to lift capacity on that corridor, which carries some of Dubai’s densest peak-hour movement.

Several other interventions are tied to specific dates. On June 12, the RTA plans to roll out traffic changes where Trade Centre Street meets Marasi Drive. Work is also planned on the service road at the junction of Airport Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Two new road links are due to open on June 28. One will connect Emirates Road with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, easing the approach to the Villanova and Arabian Ranches III neighbourhoods. The other will tie Al Qudra Road to Hessa Street along the stretch separating Dubai Studio City and Motor City.

Closing out the month on June 30, the authority will adjust Latifa bint Hamdan Street with an additional lane and new U-turn points running both ways.

The authority has framed the entire programme around smoother mobility, with the stated aim of keeping journeys across Dubai both safer and less congested.
