A bail recommendation of P20,000 stood between an overseas Filipino worker and temporary freedom after authorities took the traveler into custody at Manila’s main gateway, where a long-dormant court order finally caught up with the accused.
The arrest unfolded inside the International Arrival Area of NAIA Terminal 3, where the OFW had just landed on a flight from Singapore. According to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP), the interception followed an alert from the Bureau of Immigration, which had flagged an active warrant tied to the returning passenger.
That warrant traces back more than a decade. Records show the Metropolitan Trial Court of Manila issued it on November 20, 2013, in connection with a complaint under Batas Pambansa Blg. 22, the law penalizing the issuance of bouncing checks.
Before any transfer took place, personnel from NAIA Police Station 3 verified that the traveler matched the individual named in the court order. Identity confirmed, officers placed the OFW under custody.
The case was subsequently handed over to the Highway Patrol Group–Special Operations Division, which took charge of processing the documentation and determining the next steps in the proceedings against the accused.
