The UAE’s Health Minister has described a sweeping new directive from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as a defining shift in how the country approaches citizen welfare — one that places medical care on equal footing with other foundational national priorities.
His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of Health and Prevention, said the directive signals a deliberate move toward a more agile and future-ready health system. “The new system represents a strategic step towards a more efficient, agile and forward-looking national healthcare model,” he said.
At the core of the initiative is a unified national health insurance scheme spanning all emirates, intended to close gaps in coverage and guarantee access to quality care regardless of where citizens live. The framework is built around preventive medicine, digital health infrastructure and long-term sustainability — principles the minister described as already embedded in the sector’s ongoing development.
Al Sayegh noted that interconnected digital platforms and continued investment in service quality would underpin the system’s ability to deliver consistent health outcomes across all life stages.
The broader policy goal, as outlined by the leadership, is to build a healthcare model that operates at peak efficiency while aligning with the highest international benchmarks — a reflection of the UAE’s position on human health as a cornerstone of national development.
