Internet speed in UAE could soon be 3 times faster with new tech rollout

UAE’s prominent carrier, du, has unveiled plans to triple its internet speeds by introducing multi-carrier aggregation technologies. The technology involves the aggregation of three carriers of 100 Mhz each within the C-Band and 2.6 Ghz band, promising to deliver data speeds three times faster than the current rates offered to du subscribers.

Introduced in 2021, du’s home wireless services quickly attracted thousands of users. With the rollout of multi-carrier aggregation, du aims to bolster its wireless home broadband capabilities, supporting high bandwidth and low latency demands of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, 8K video streaming, metaverse, UHD cloud gaming, and more.

Saleem Al Blooshi, the chief technology officer of du, commented on the update, “We foresee a surge in average bandwidth demands. Multi-carrier aggregation is our answer to magnify both the peak and average throughputs of our wireless networks.”

Having pioneered 4G and 5G home wireless services in the UAE, du’s next leap will be into 3CC-enabled advanced 5G services, catering to upcoming requirements like AI, metaverse, Extended Reality (XR) gaming, and XR meetings, projected to become mainstream within a year.
