Bus driver honored for guiding blind man across busy Dubai road

An act of instinctive compassion on a Dubai street has earned a Roads and Transport Authority bus driver formal recognition from the authority he serves.

Naeem Abbas Muhammad, an RTA bus driver, noticed a blind man struggling to cross the road and immediately stepped off his route to assist, walking the man safely through traffic and remaining with him until he reached the other side. “I saw a man trying to cross the road and he was blind… I helped him,” Naeem said.

The RTA documented the incident on video, showing the unannounced nature of the act — no crowd, no announcement, just a driver responding to someone in need. The footage was later shared by the authority on social media.

Naeem was presented with a certificate of appreciation by RTA Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors Mattar Al Tayer, who told him simply: “Good job.”

The recognition appeared to matter less to Naeem than the act itself. “I like to help people,” he said. “Helping is the way. Helping is Dubai culture.”

The commendation is consistent with a broader RTA effort to acknowledge workers who uphold standards of service and community care. Under the “Road Ambassadors” initiative in 2025, the authority recognised 2,172 taxi drivers for strict regulatory compliance, maintaining cleanliness standards for themselves and their vehicles, and returning lost property to passengers.
