Got caught giving rides for money in your private car? Expect a fine in Ajman

Carrying paying passengers in a privately registered vehicle is against the law in Ajman — and the emirate’s transport authority wants to make sure that message reaches everyone.

Ajman Transport issued a formal advisory this week reinforcing the prohibition, stating: “Transporting passengers using private vehicles is prohibited.” The authority confirmed that violations are subject to fines, underscoring that this is not an informal guideline but a legal requirement with enforceable penalties.

Residents looking for licensed alternatives have several options. Taxis in Ajman are regulated by the Ajman Transport Authority, with Arabia Taxi and Al Raha Taxi as the primary operators. The authority also pointed passengers toward Sawari vehicles — a limousine service it operates directly — as a safe, regulated option. Sawari Limousine recorded a 25.34 percent increase in demand during the first half of 2025, completing 24,415 trips compared to 19,479 during the same period in 2024.

Residents can also book licensed Ajman taxis through the Yango app, which integrates the emirate’s taxi fleet into its platform and offers on-demand access 24/7.

The warning is part of broader efforts by UAE transport authorities to clamp down on informal, unlicensed passenger transport — a practice that raises safety concerns since private vehicles and their drivers are not subject to the same regulatory oversight as licensed operators.
